Metal By Numbers 4/15 - Oceano Shows Its Depth In Slow Metal Week.

Metal By Numbers is a weekly column in which we look at the top sellers of the week as well as what’s getting played at Metal radio courtesy of radio trade magazine FMQB, whose metal panel consists of about 80 college and commercial stations that have metal shows, as well as SiriusXM, Music Choice, and more.

It's a pretty slow week for metal all around, actually. The biggest metal debut of the week was Oceano, which, while at a repectable 2,400 copies, wasn't enough to be a top 200 debut. In fact, if you don't count the Canadian rock onslaught of Nickelback and Theory of a Deadman (trust us, we don't) as metal, the first thing remotely resembling anything heavy is Papa Roach, all the way at 50. Meanwhile at FMQB, Mastodon and Daath top the most-spun and most-added, respectively.

Notable Debuts:

Oceano, Depths (Earache) 2,400 copies sold
A decent debut for Earache's new death-core signing

Sameal, Above (Nuclear Blast) 900 copies sold
This is the Swiss band's 8th album.

Notable Sales:

Kid Rock, Rock N' Roll Jesus (Atlantic) #58, 11,500 copies sold
Closing in on 3 million sold, Kid Rock may be the last rock star.

Metallica, Death Magnetic (Warner Bros.) #60, 11,000 copies sold
Metallica has another 18% increase in sales from last week thanks to a Rock Hall of Fame bump.

Mastodon, Crack the Skye,(Reprise) Debut #74, 9,500 copies sold
Nearly 10,000 discriminating metalheads pushed the band's 4th album to 65,000 sold in three weeks.

Queensryche, American Soldier (Rhino) #101, 7,000 sold
A steep 67% second week drop, but the band will have sold over 30,000 by next week.

AC/DC, Black Ice (Columbia) #111, 6,300 copies sold
25 weeks in, and the juggernaut that is AC/DC is showing no signs of slowing down.

Disturbed, Indestructible (Reprise) #117, 6,000 copies sold
Another juggernaut that won't slow down. Almost a year in and nearly platinum.

Slipknot, All Hope is Gone (Roadrunner), #123, 5,000 copies sold.
Three quarters of the way to platinum, this album will take a while, but it'll get there.

Lamb of God, Wrath (Epic) #137, 5,300 copies sold
At least until Killswitch Engage comes out, this is the best-selling metal album of the year, having sold 131,000 in less than two months.

Avenged Sevenfold, Avenged Sevenfold (Warner Bros.) #166, 4,200 copies sold
A nice 16% increase over last week, this is another album that's been around for over a year that keeps selling.

Static-X, Cult of Static (Warner Bros.) #171, 4,000 copies sold
The cult dwindles by 26% this week from last, but Wayne and co. are still doing pretty well.
.
Impending Doom, Serpent Servant (Facedown) 1,800 sold
Christian band has a pretty good second week.

Bring Me The Horizon, Suicide Season (Epitaph) 1,450 copies sold
If they sell the same as they did this week and last week, they'll cross 50,000 sold next week.

God Forbid, Earthsblood (Century Media) 800 copies sold
7 weeks in, God Forbid have reached the point where they're selling consistently week over week.

The Answer, Everyday Demons (The End) 700 copes sold
AC/DC's opener has sold about 4,000 copies of their album in three weeks. Not bad for a bunch of relatively unknowns.

Wolves in the Throne Room, Black Cascade (Southern Lord) 600 sold
GO BUY THIS ALBUM NOW (well, if you like black metal, anyway, because it pretty much rules)

Hammerfall, No Sacrifice No Victory (Nuclear Blast) 600 sold
Power metallers close in on 3k sold in 3 weeks.

Does the madness have to stop because we've been abandoned by those running the site? I say NAY! This forum always had great conversation about great music and I don't see why it has to end. Thoughts?
