The new album from mainstream groove metal band, Lamb of God, is finally available. "The Passing" opens with a nice acoustic feel, but picks up a little, with an electric guitar. It kept a very hard rock heavy metal beat, but slammed you with pure Lamb of God talent with "In Your Words". The opening to "In Your Words" feels a lot like As the Palaces Burns, but soon shows that they have yet again arrived at a new more melodic western heavy metal sound and an extremely long break down. This sound is very different and set apart from their last album which was more on the metalcore side verses a thrash dominant seen in Ashes of the Wake and As the Places Burn. Is Lamb of God returning to their Roots?
This album has its perks and its downs. I am really happy to see a return to their roots and adding a southern taste to it. Yet a lot of the songs have similar structure to them. Randy and team made a good choice by sampling their new album with the song contractor because it shows the return and all the new parts they have entered into it. "Fake Messiah", probably one of my favorite songs on the album, has a very catchy chorus, excellent rhythmical guitar work and a nice break down to end it. "Grace" has the nice new unique slow southern beat at the beginning where it just slaps you with the original Lamb of God sound. It also has well performed lead guitar with a unique solo, which only yields to the best solo in the song "Choke Sermon". The most diverse song, not by much though, was "Broken Hand". It had a very different feel in that it had a section of hardcore chants that it featured. This song, if any, will make things shatter from you now broken hand. The most appealing feature in the album in my opinion was the new acoustic rhythm guitar work influenced by the south. A great example of this is show in the song "Reclamation".
Wrath stands as a beacon for Lamb of God, as the return of the old. This album is not just old spice but it is been to the south and knows how to kick some ass. This album is also a perfect example of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal movement, and demonstrates what it is to be a RockNRolla. Wrath has only one big downfall and that is it sounds a lot alike itself through the whole thing. Not too much variety from song to song. Yet I still believe this album will do extremely well with the Americans and metal heads around the world.
