Stratovarius is back and full of power. New guitarist Matias Kupiainen has brought a new kind of blood to the band. Just when you thought that the band had kinda lost their juice they make this amazing comeback. Some people may have thought that Timo Tolkki leaving the band was bad news, well for all those people go check out his side project. I will still be listening to this!
The cd is a gift of high intellect. The lyrical content is nothing to brag about but it works wonders with the musical content. The cd is filled with sweeping arpeggios, brilliant solos and has all the highs and lows of a great musical journey in power metal. The usual power metal band has you thinking of dragons and winning a great battle. This cd made me feel otherwise. I sat listening to it picturing a noble man sitting in his chamber looking out into the fields thinking of life itself.
The most epic song on the cd is King Of Nothing. Blind's intro is what Stratovarius is known for when it comes to their classical background. Forever Is Today starts off with one hell of a punch in the gutt. Winter Skies is the song that you want to listen to while you are kicking back and looking to get involved in the actual music. It has a keyboard solo that gets your full attention. Emancipation Parts I & II are, well in my opinion drag on a bit too much. With the ups and downs of the cd, this definately makes you feel like you are at the end of the ride.
I liked the whole cd, some songs more then others. I am happy to see that they have gotten back some of their older style. Easily the best release for them since Destiny!
