Believers In The Power of Metal

Well, the metal and hard rock Grammy winners were announced, and they were as follows:

Best Metal Performance: Metallica, "My Apocalypse"

Best Hard Rock Performance: The Mars Volta "Wax Simulacra"

My take: Ever since 1989, when Metallica blew America away by playing "One" at the Grammys, then lost Best Metal Performance to Jethro Tull (what?!), the Grammys have been atoning, giving Metallica virtually any Grammy they were nominated for, even pulling out 'Tallica songs from live albums to give to them. It was inevitable they were going to win. It's good that at least this time, it's for the heaviest song on a good album. Also a good win for TMV. Their instrumentation and experimentation, and probably a few other "tations" are heads above the competition, with the possible exception of legacy nominee Judas Priest.

I JUST PERSONALLY WANT TO KNOW HOW THEY MAKE THIS DECISION. WHAT CRITERIA DO YOU HAVE TO HAVE TO MAKE IT?

There was another Grammy awards show? LOL - I STILL can not forgive them for considering Jethro Tull "METAL" - they nearly redeemed themselves by nominating KING DIAMOND last year - but I really... still... I would have rather watched Arena Football

OK kids, I've worked on three records that have all had Grammy noms. KsE's "End of Heartache", Cradle's "Nymphetamine" and Dragonforce's "Heroes of Our Time" -- and none of them have won. Damn, the Cradle camp was so sure they were going to win, they asked me to give the award speech: I was ready to say -- "I'd like to thank The Academy and Satan -- and of course, Jesus is a c**t". As far as the metal award goes, it's the familiarity vote and sometimes, in the case of a band like Motorhead, it is well deserved. But just the fact that some of these records and artists are records are recognized in Katy Perry-land is perfectly fine.
The fact that The Mars Volta won is a triumph for real and challenging music. Not an easy record in the slightest. It bodes well for the notion that maybe, just maybe somebody out there is actually listening!

Agreed. Even if Cedric and Omar can't live up to "Deloused", off the wall prog winning a damn Grammy is impressive.
