Believers In The Power of Metal

Extreme metal has many different branches to it. There are hundreds of bands under all of its off shoots. There are bands that can bring black metal together with death metal or doom metal. Some can bring death metal with doom metal. And rare but not unusual some bring thrash metal in the mix with death and black metal. Who would have thought to bring three off shoots together? Well Devian did it, and combined finesse and brutality all in the same dark album. This album is so evil and create, if ever such thing, an evil yet serene atmosphere. This is a perfect album to sacrifice animals during.

Dark, evil and fucking brutal, not just brutal but it is very insane and diabolical. These guys did not just stop there, they made sure to combine finesse with it and add a shit load of melody throughout the entire masterpiece. As we know Legion, the lead vocalist, has been very successful in his career choice. By playing in the legendary band Marduk along with Devian’s drummer Emil Dragutinovic, they have learned what it takes to make a great band. Legion only proves this with some unbelievably long screams in “I’m the Pariah”. He does not only sport black metal shrieks but some amazing death grunt. To give this brutality some more finesse, they blend some pretty entrancing chants in, like that from the song “Saint Bleeder”. Emil Dragutinovic works in a pretty phenomenal break down in the song “South of Halo” with the help of Tomas Nilsson and Joinus. These two also contributed some fairly good melodic riffs, but Carl Stjärnlöv keeps the music raw. “When the Vultures Have Left” had a nice intro to it with the organs and finished the album of smoothly.

Thanks to century media this album should be fairly easy to get your hands on. Once these hands a hold of it though you probably won’t be letting go for a while. True metal heads will listen to it for time to come and hopefully support the band to continue on. With this album being so brutal and melodic it is almost impossible to turn up. I give this work of art a 8 out of 10, and hopefully 2009 keeps treating us to these kind of releases.
