GOD DETHRONED - PASSIONDALE CD Review

So you want war! Well here you have it! God Dethroned's 8th studio recorded cd "Passiondale" brings us to the forfront of one of history's biggest battles, World War 1, and describes to us what it might have looked like had we been there. It is said that Henri "T.S.K." Sattler was inspired to write this concept album while passing by Passendale and Tyne Cot cemetery & memorial centre on the way to Isaac's (former guitar player) for their notorious drinking sessions in Ypres.

The album was recorded at Soundlodge studio in Leer, Germany where they had recorded their last cd The Toxic Touch. It was recorded as a 3 piece band as Isaac decided to go in another direction. With Roel Sanders back on drums it is no surprise that the album is far more intense, extreme and heavy hitting then their last couple of releases. After the recording was finished the band started holding auditions for a new guitar player and welcomed female player Susan Gerl.

"Passiondale" is lyrically genius. Most would argue that it is usesless to have gutteral vocals to deliver such a strong message but I would dissagree. The vocals in my opinion are quite understandable. The song "No Survivors" has a clear vocal section that left me quite impressed not only with the vocals but with the guitar solo as well.

My favorite tunes on the album are "Poison Fog", "Behind Enemy Lines" and "Drowning In Mud". Would I listen to the cd all day long? Probably not but I would definately keep it on rotation witout a doubt.
