Believers In The Power of Metal

ok i do not know if its just me or not, but i listen to some pretty brutal shit for example Vital Remains, Necrophagist, Vomitory, and Azarath. yet for some reason it just does not seem that brutal anymore. it seems like it good be taken even farther than they are. so are there bands even more brutal than these guys if so let me know.

I remember seeing Vital Remains with Autopsy and Morgue in '93. Great show. Incantation dropped off that bill before the show, which was disappointing. I always considered Incantation and Mortician as a couple of the most brutal bands around, especially at that time. If you haven't already, give Incantation a listen.

I don't even know what BRUTAL means anymore... I too love some "extreme" forms of Death Metal - but the whole Grindcore movement kinda fucked me up. I just don't dig it too much because it seems like a pissing contest to see who can be the most "extreme".

I prefer well written songs, hooks, choruses and musicianship over the "I'm more brutal than you" 'tards who play fast just to play fast. Gimmie quality over brutality any day.

One band I just found is OCEANO and their new album "Depths" - it's very "brutal", yet very "beautiful" at times. The vocals have some of that unintelligible, "I just barfed in a chum-bucket" kind-of slop, but aside from that, it's a pretty daymn good album. Definitely check it out...

'yeah, but the vocals are even sicker, and there's more speed...' whatever.
